Ouranophobia or Uranophobia- Fear of heaven

For most people, heaven is a place of peace and tranquility, where everything is wonderful and everyone is happy. Most of us would want to go to heaven after life but there are some people who fear heaven. This fear is said to be influenced by one’s religion. For instance, Christians literally believe that those who lived a righteous life and one in unselfish faith that once they die, they go to heaven and live with the angels and God. Sometimes the fear results from the anxiety or fear that they will be meeting the creator and that no matter how hard they tried to be good, they fear that they will be judged and punished for the sins they have done on earth and be shunned away from heaven.

Some are also scared of the thought of living with the angels because they are scared of the image of angels having human bodies and gigantic wings attached to them. This fear of angels might have been due to stories that they might have heard in the past about the angel of death.

Symptoms of Ouranophobia or Uranophobia include panic attack symptoms such as palpitations, restlessness, tremors and other symptoms of anxiety.

Treatment includes therapy and counseling wherein the fear of heaven is discussed and overcome. Anti-anxiety medications may be given to those not responding to therapy.
