Mycophobia- Fear or aversion to mushrooms

Mushrooms are often part of cuisines and at some point in our life, we have eaten mushrooms in one of our favorite dishes. Although other mushrooms are poisonous, this didn’t stop those who love eating mushrooms from ingesting them. Mushrooms as we know is classified under fungus and for those who fear it, they are called Mycophobic.

It’s quite difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of this phobia but some fear it due to its hallucinogenic effects and alter their minds. The fear that an individual experiences can also be the result of modeled behavior in someone they love and trust. Having a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or older cousin who has a fear of mushrooms can be the starting point of personal fear development.

People who fear mushrooms would usually avoid them and would have a steadfast refusal to be in contact with any mushrooms. Other symptoms may be sweating, crying, screaming, crying, elevated body temperatures and heart rates.

Mushrooms may not seem threatening and there may be few that understand the trauma that comes along with experiencing this fear. This is why seeking help may be one of the best ways to deal with your anxiety.
